The Memorial Flag Program was started by Glenda L. (Cox) Haugen, Tom McCurry and the Cemetery District. Mrs. Haugen was the spark behind the program. She was in contact with the Cemetery District expressing her desire to have a flag display similar to one she had seen in Spokane and Richland, WA. Tom McCurry was a big help early in the program seeking donations from the American Legion post 137 and many local residents. Through hard work and the persistent efforts of Mrs. Haugen, Mr. McCurry and the Cemetery District the Memorial Flag program has grown substantially from one cemetery the first year to seven. It has been a wonderful program that started as a way to honor local veterans and now has expanded as a way for families to honor all loved ones. Donations are accepted in the form of cash, check, money order or certified cashier's checks made out to Skamania County Cemetery District. Donations of any amount are accepted and appreciated. Donations of less than $100.00 will be used for maintenance, repair and replacement of cemetery flags. Donations of $100.00 or more will be used as follows:

  • Purchase one flag, flagpole, mounting device and memorial plaque.
  • Remaining funds from each donation will be added to the Cemetery Districts General Fund and accounted for as a separate segment of money.
  • The remaining funds will be used for maintenance, replacement of flags and associated hardware and products purchased through this program.

Each year, the Cemetery District may publish a "Thank You" Letter. If you wish to have your name excluded from this advertisement, please make note of it on the donation form. A Memorial Flag Donation form can be downloaded from our forms page. Questions regarding this program may be forwarded to the Skamania County Cemetery District at (509) 427-4114
