Funds to operate the various programs are provided through contracts with the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging, Washington State Department of Transportation, by local donations, and Skamania County.
The goal of Skamania County Senior Services is to assist individuals to live as independently as possible and avoid inappropriate institutionalization by providing a range of health and social services to Skamania County adults.
Nutrition Program - The oldest, most popular program, provides primarily from funds allocated by the Older Americans Act, is aimed at people over 60 who are physically and emotionally able to benefit from a social setting. Noon meals are served Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Rock Creek Recreation Center in Stevenson. The purpose is to provide older adults with a hot, nutritious meal and an opportunity to socialize while eating with friends.
Home Delivered Meals - These meals are available for those people who are homebound and have a special long-term or emergency need.
Transportation - Senior Services provides transportation to Skamania County residents of all ages to medical and social service appointments as well as financial, social, and shopping services. Transportation is provided to senior meals as well. If you need transportation please call 509-427-3990 and get on the schedule.
Social Events - Special social events are planned throughout the year, including a monthly birthday luncheon for all county seniors.
In-Home Personal Care Services - The following Personal Care Programs are available to elderly and/or disabled individuals to assist them to remain in their own home.
Case Management - The case Manager coordinates community services for the frail, elderly person with multiple needs. The purpose is to support the older person's independence in his or her own home as long as possible.
Respite - Respite is a break or "time out" for care givers who provide continuous supervision or care for adults over 18. If you are an unpaid care giver who needs to get out once in a while to take care of business or just simply relax, call for an assessment.
