RESOLUTION 2005-26
(Declaring Appointed Administrative Positions in
Sheriff’s Department Market Positions and assigning pay ranges)
WHEREAS, under State of Washington Civil Service Law (RCW 41.14.070) Skamania County Sheriff appoints administrative (unclassified) positions that are responsible for various “departments’ or primary functions of the Sheriff’s Department and Jail; and
WHEREAS, the level of responsibility and the round-the clock nature of these positions exceeds that of non-administrative personnel they supervise; and
WHEREAS, Skamania County Board of Commissioners has the responsibility of setting salaries for administrative and non-administrative personnel; and
WHEREAS, the compensation for the Sheriff’s Administrative positions have been reviewed relative to comparable counties and in relationship to the positions these positions supervise within the County; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners believes it is in the best interest of the County and the Sheriff’s Office to establish a set spread of salary range assignments for various Sheriff’s Administrative positions between the Administrative Positions and the positions supervised by the Administrative Positions;
WHEREAS, the assigned pay ranges keep the administrative positions within the mid-range of compensation for comparable counties; and
WHEREAS, the Skamania County Board of Commissioners approved this action in public meeting on June 27, 2005;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners hereby declares the following appointed administrative positions in the Sheriff’s office as market positions and assigns salary ranges as follows:
Position Salary Range Assignment
Chief Criminal Deputy: Two salary ranges above the Patrol Sergeant
(as established in the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Guild
collective bargaining contract)
Jail Superintendent Same range as Chief Criminal Deputy
Chief Civil Deputy One range below Chief Criminal Deputy
Undersheriff Two ranges above Chief Criminal Deputy
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the effective date for the market positions and assigned salary ranges shall be July 1, 2005, without retroactivity.
