RESOLUTION 2005-18

(Declaring Maintenance of an Index Identifying All Public Information and Records Held by the County would be unduly burdensome and will not be provided)

WHEREAS, RCW 42.17.260 requires every public agency to maintain and make available for public inspection and copying a current index providing identifying information as to certain public records; and

WHEREAS, Skamania County has endeavored to provide the best possible service to its citizens in complying with this unfunded state mandate; and

WHEREAS, Skamania County has been able to provide this service without complaint from its citizens and without the use of a current index; and

WHEREAS, Skamania County and it’s employees generate or obtain thousands of documents each year which would fit within the categories required to be indexed by RCW 42.17.260, which the County has determined would create an unreasonable and undue burden on the County to index and would substantially interfere with the operations of the County because of the time necessary to index the multitude of records, however, any elected official may individually determine to provide indexing in his/her office.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Skamania County Board of Commissioners hereby resolves as follows:

Pursuant to RCW 42.17.260 the County hereby declares that the indexing and maintaining an index of all public records obtained by the County would be unduly burdensome and would interfere with the operations of the County. A current index as described in RCW 42.17.260 will, therefore, not be maintained by the County.
