Leaders Council 3-12-07
Called to order by Mike Dudley at 7:05 pm
Present: Mike Dudley,
Brandy read the minutes from the February meeting. Paul motioned to approve the minutes as read. Bev seconded passed unanimously.
Charline was not available to present the Treasurer’s report but there are expenditures that need approval.
Stamps for the Trophy Committee 39.00
Annual Dues approximately 84.00
Bill for Trophy repairs 13.00
Paul made a motion to pay expenditures as described, Tina seconded passed unanimously.
Advisories
Horse Advisory: Mike presented the minutes from the 2-12-07 meeting. There was q question as to wether Tina Goodnight would possibly handle the Public Demo’s in the horse Barn. Tina said she will not be available to do this but possibly her replacement in the exhibit hall could.
Livestock Advisory: Paul read the minutes from the 2-12-07 meeting. There will be a 60x60 steel construction cover over the small arena. Paul will speak with Mike and decide what the inside height should be for equine safety.
Paul would also like to stress once again that white ribbons sell at the market sale. White ribbons are not a failure but a learning opportunity and he feels all leaders need to stress this point to their kids.
Home Ec Advisory: No meeting to report on.
Teen Advisory: Charline not present but Lenora reported on the success of KYG this year. Mike also commented on how strong this program makes the Stevenson Carson School District Youth in Government Program.
Camps
Teen Retreat is Friday April 27- Sunday April 29. All teens that want to be counselors at this summers camps HAVE TO ATTEND Teen Retreat, all of the training is held at this time.
Teen Horse Camp is June 21-24 and will be held at the fair grounds.
Regular Horse Camp is July 12-15th
Fiber Stitch Camp was a huge success. The kids made Teddy Bears and carrying cases for them. They are going to include coloring books and crayons with their packages and each 4h’er will deliver their teddy bear to a child at Dornbecher’s Children’s Hospital later in the year.
Office Report
They are busy packing and preparing to move. The April newsletter will be sent out April 13th any info that clubs may want in the newsletter has to be turned into Lenora by the 11th. The County is trying to buy a portable to use for extra storage at
Forrest Fund Update: Paul and Scott just returned from another trip to DC and they are feeling confident that the 1 year extension will be approved. They also feel that the 5 year is looking promising. The County and the SCSD has made a public announcement that they will not make any rash decisions regarding funding. They have every intention of keeping the quality of life that we in the county have become used to and youth programs will not be the first to be looked at. The County spends approximately 120K on the fair.
Old Business
Kitchen Update: The Fair Board is paying to put flooring in.
Horse Show Fundraiser: The county wants 80.00 per day to rent the grounds. There will also be a Goat Show happening on the grounds the same weekend. The Goat Show has reserved the horse barn as well so that will not be available for our use.
New Business
Workday will be August 4th with two 3-hour shifts. The Superintendent’s will have walkie talkies as to better communicate their labor needs.
The Clark County Dairy Goat Association is reformatting their organization and they have some great class offerings.
